Share your views on urgent and emergency care in Southport and Formby

We are pleased to provide an update about Shaping Care Together, our programme aimed at ensuring everyone in our communities across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire has access to the care they need through safe, high-quality services, today and in the future.

Today, we are announcing that we’re moving to a new phase of pre-consultation engagement, focused on changing how we provide urgent and emergency care services.

Why change is needed

Demand for care is rising, our communities are getting older, and some services were designed for the needs of our population decades ago. Our needs and practices are different today and our services have to reflect that.

We also face challenges around having the staff that we need and ensuring that our buildings are fit-for-purpose so that we can continue to provide safe, high-quality, excellent care. On top of this there are financial pressures. All this shows that we need to find some new ways to care for the people we serve.

What happens next

This is just the start of the conversation. No decisions have been taken yet. Before getting to that stage, we have a duty to listen to the views of everyone who relies on us or is affected by how we offer our services.

There will be lots of ways to take part, from public meetings to focus groups and roadshow events. I’ll let you know when they’re happening and how to come along.

I really hope you’ll get involved so that we learn what matters most to you.

Best wishes, Rob Cooper.
